FED: Howard polls stronger than Latham
SYDNEY, April 6 AAP - The majority of Australians believe Prime Minister John Howard
is a stronger leader than the opposition's Mark Latham, a new poll has found.
The Morgan poll, released today, reveals 55 per cent of Australian voters considered
Mr Howard a stronger leader than Mr Latham, who polled at 32 per cent.
Fifty-five per cent also said Mr Howard would be better at managing the economy.
Mr Howard came out on top on Australia's security, with 51 per cent trusting him to
keep the nation safe and secure.
The poll found 49 per cent said Mr Howard was more capable and intelligent than Mr
Latham, who polled 27 per cent.
However Mr Latham rated better on family issues, with 50 per cent believing he was
better at looking after a family's needs, against Mr Howard's 34-point rating.
The Morgan telephone poll was conducted on the nights of March 31 and April 1 and
surveyed a national cross-section of 546 voters.
