NSW: Minister announces changes to police training system

SYDNEY, Feb 24 AAP - Police recruits will receive more on-the-job training under changesannounced today by the NSW government.
Police Minister Michael Costa said the training program would be changed to put a greateremphasis on practical skills recruits needed to become probationary officers earlier inthe course.
This means police recruits can be out of the NSW Police College and earning a first-yearsalary of about $42,000 in only 31 weeks, rather than the 12 months that is currentlyrequired before recruits can get paid.
